Criteria/Process

Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County makes homeownership affordable for families. To apply and qualify to become a Habitat partner family you must meet certain requirements.

Habitat Homeowner Qualifications

-You must be a US citizen or permanent resident

-You must be able to afford monthly payments of $700-$750 and a one time escrow (taxes and insurance) payment of $700.

-You are willing to complete 350 hours of sweat equity, where you work on your own home and your neighbor’s homes

-You must have an acceptable credit history and score above 500.

-You must fall within 40%-60% of the Harris County low income guidelines for a family of your size. Currently the minimum income/year requirement is $18,000 for a family of 1.

5 people  $27,760 – $41,640

8 people  $33,920 – $50,880

-The housing you live in now is at least one of the following:

  • Overcrowded
  • Poorly maintained (substandard)
  • In a dangerous neighborhood
  • Live with family, or friends, or in a long term shelter
